Medical Malpractice Insurance in North Carolina

Physicians in North Carolina have seen an increase in medical malpractice rates for the first time in many years as carriers have experienced a rise in claim severity. While the number of suits filed has remained relatively flat, the average payout has increased. This trend is expected to continue both in North Carolina and nationally.

 

In a recent study conducted by the American Medical Association, the data showed the highest prevalence of increases in medical liability premiums in 15 years. Notably, North Carolina was one of 14 states identified in the 2021 Policy Research Perspectives study that has seen rate increases of 10% or more over the past few years. While no one wants to pay more in premium, it is essential to remember that you have options.
